Message from Your Personal Singing Coach:
“Welcome all fellow singers, vocal coaches and singing students!
I would like to wish all who celebrate, a Happy Children’s Day on 1st October! ;-p
Our children are the next generation’s leaders, and so I do hope that I am playing my part to nurture the next era of singers in our world.
The past few months have been very eventful for me, and I am entering a slightly more relaxed phase, but still important for our preparations for the new year of 2012.
It is now time to look back on the past year, and to think of all the wonderful things that have happened, and just be grateful for all that we have been given.
Having read the books ‘The Secret’ and ‘The Power’, I am a firm believer of thinking and believing, although sometimes life really does throw a hard one at you.
We all just have to keep our heart and mind happy, and just keep on moving forward, because only then will there be progress and improvement!
For those who may have hit a plateau in their singing training, my advice is to take a short break, and you may find that your singing may actually improve when you resume your practice after your break. ;-p
At least, that is what happens in my own personal experience!
I would like to request that you do make an effort to join Your Personal Singing Guide’s NEW Facebook Fan Page

RESOURCE Webpage: Pitching Exercises
Pitching exercises are more important than we think!
They help us to recognize the pitches that we sing, and also to train our voices to react to these pitches quickly and more accurately.
Certainly, a song is just a huge collection of pitches that come one after another, and learning more about pitches helps us to sing better too.
This is why we advocate learning different musical scales, using them in your singing practice, and applying different vowels to these scales as well so that you simulate actual singing with pitch and rhythm!

Vocal Tip #31- Too Many Vocal Techniques, Too Little Time!
Having taught pop singing for the past 10 years, my experience is that 10 years is really still not enough time for us to discover all there is to know about the voice.
There is just so much to learn, and so much that we have to figure out for ourselves!
And the voice is just so mysterious that even on a scientific level, there is so much more that we have to discover and unearth.
But for those who are just looking to know something basic about singing, do check out this chapter on the Basics of Singing:
Basics of Singing URL:
http://www.your-personal-singing-guide.com/basics-of-singing.html
Personally, I first started off learning from a senior pop singing instructor at the school I was working in, who was also the one who believed that I could teach the subject well.
I realize now that those days were really important in starting me off on my journey of teaching singing, and I am very thankful for the opportunity given to me then.
However, on hindsight, I realize now that the knowledge gained then was not necessarily correct.
Over the first few years of teaching, I experimented with many singing ‘techniques’, and also discussed teaching methods with my colleagues and peers.
We all tried our best to teach our students to the best of our knowledge, and I am so very grateful for those wonderful young days!
Ever since I founded my very own pop music school, I have come into contact with so much more knowledge and insight about singing.
I have talked with classical singing instructors, speech level singing (SLS) instructors, estill voice instructors, and also many other pop musicians and singers alike.
Each of these schools of thought on singing have their plus points, and any smart singing student would do well to apply the good of each technique when working on our singing voice.
After all, it could perhaps be a case of it all being just different ways of talking about the same thing, or different ways of looking at the same situation.
This is why I firmly believe that Singing is a lifelong journey, and even then, we should still inspire our next generation, and the generation after that, to continue to unravel the mystery that is Singing. ;-p

Pitching Tip #27 – ‘Sing’ like a ‘Tone Deaf’ person
Yes, I know you must be scratching your head right now, thinking that I’m crazy for saying this.
Sing like a ‘tone deaf’ person??? This guy must be out of his mind!?!?!!
Amazingly, I have told my students to do the above, and I certainly achieved the results that I wanted from them! ;-p
Before finding out what this tip can help you achieve, do check out some useful vocal exercises that you can do everyday:
Vocal Exercises URL:
http://www.your-personal-singing-guide.com/vocal-exercises.html
Now, what in the world would drive me to teach my students to ‘Sing’ like a tone ‘deaf’ person?
Recently I encountered students who talk very softly and gently in their everyday lives, and they also sing with a very gentle and ’tilted’ tone.
In a chance encounter at church, I was sitting in front of a lady, who was singing her lungs out for each and every hymn.
The only problem was, she was tone deficient. She went off key at almost every opportunity!
The strange thing is, she was also very LOUD.
And then it struck me. People who are tone-deficient really tend to sing louder, because they don’t sing in a gentle manner.
The way these people sing, is in a very monotonous manner, and this tends to trigger a speech level tone which is much louder than a gentle tilted tone that most singers prefer.
By getting my students to sing some phrases and imagine that they are a ‘tone deaf’ person, I managed to get them to leave behind their tendency towards a gentler tone.
In fact, they were getting much more volume just by imagining that they were ‘tone deaf’!
Certainly, I asked them to still keep close to the correct pitches they had to sing, but just imagining that they were slightly tone deaf, was good enough to trigger a louder singing tone.
It made them sound like they were talking, but it certainly gave them a louder voice.
Try it and see if it works for you too! ;-p
Just be sure to warn your friends and the people around you first.. and ask them to bear with your singing.. haha..
