Message from Your Personal Singing Coach:
“Welcome all fellow singers, vocal coaches and singing students!
Your Personal Singing Ezine is currently in its 18th issue right now, and it’s really a little surreal at the moment.
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine this website to take off like this, and that I could be impacting lives of singers all around the world! I guess this proves that if we have the passion for something, the world will acknowledge that passion and give us the support that we need to carry on.
I have been writing this Ezine for more than 2 years now, and I would just like to say a sincere THANK YOU to those of you who have been supporting me all this while. It has been great having you on this journey with me, and I hope that you will continue to support my work, and also to help me spread the word about my website to everyone around you.
For those who just joined our family, a big WELCOME to you, and I hope that you will enjoy the resources and information uploaded on this website. Feel free to communicate with everyone and to ask me questions now and then. I do reply my emails, contrary to popular belief. ;-p
I am currently working on updating the drills and exercises on the website, and have uploaded more new and exciting resources as well as content on the website. Do check out the section on ‘Pitching Exercises’ to find out what I have updated!!
I realize that updating the website will be a monumental task, and I do still have to run my own music school in the meantime, but I guess passion will carry me through in the end!
All I am asking is that you join Your Personal Singing Guide’s Facebook Group
(http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=161546608524&ref=ts
, and get your friends to join too. Help me to spread the word to everyone in the world, so that my website can begin to touch lives that I can’t even begin to imagine right now.
Do enjoy the tips that I am providing for you in this 18th issue of this Ezine, and feel free to share Your Personal Singing Ezine with your friends and loved ones, or better still, get them to come and subscribe to their very own Personal Singing Ezine! I will be glad to share my singing tips and pointers with them too!
If you wish to share with your friends the back-issues of our Ezine, feel free to do so too:
http://www.your-personal-singing-guide.com/Your_Personal_Singing_EZine-backissues.html
Also, if you feel that our website is really beneficial to you, please do let us know by dropping us an email through our Contact Us section on the website! Your comments will be greatly appreciated!”

UPDATED Website Section: Pitching Exercises
I have finally found some time to update the drills and exercises in this section, and you will find that I have added more music for everyone to use and practise!
This updated music can be found in the sections on ‘Major Scales’ and ‘Minor Scales’, and it consists of more practice music, ranging from a wider range of keys.
I will continue to find time to update more of the drills on the website, so that it can become more useful for everyone in your daily singing practice, so do keep checking back with our website to find out the latest updates!
The pitching exercises in this section are fairly simple and easy to use, and you can follow the instructions I have laid out in the relevant webpage. However, do be careful not to strain your voice, and also not to practise too hard and end up with a sore throat. The best guideline is that if your throat hurts, you are certainly doing something wrong, and you should stop immediately.
Ok, check out the section on Pitching Exercises now, and start off your singing education:

RESOURCE Website Section: Vocal Exercises
A lot of my students are very unsure of how to practice on their own, especially when they are at home and they don’t know how to play any musical instrument, or maybe they don’t even have any instrument at home in the first place.
That is one of the main reasons why I created this section on Vocal Exercises, to provide everyone with easy-to-use music for self-practice at home. You don’t need to play the piano or the guitar in order to practise singing. You just need to have a computer in front of you, and click on the audio clips I uploaded.
The vocal exercises in this section are fairly simple and easy to use, just like the pitching exercises that I have highlighted above. However, do be careful not to strain your voice, and also not to practise too hard and end up with a sore throat. The best guideline is that if your throat hurts, you are certainly doing something wrong, and you should stop immediately.
Also, the exercises are divided into sub-sections, so if you are working on specific goals for your singing voice, do refer to the relevant section.
Ok, check out the section on Vocal Exercises now, and start off your singing education:

Vocal Tip #20 – Singing is Not ALL Output.
Today I had the pleasure of teaching 15 young singers who had taken part in a local singing competition.
They were extremely young and eager to learn, and many of them had lovely singing voices. This is one of the reasons why I love to teach youths, and to inspire them to reach for greater heights, because many of them fail to realize how much potential they really have!
I coined a useful phrase today for all of them, and that is: “Singing is not ALL Output.”
Seriously, many singers think that singing is all about the words, the notes, singing them out and making sure that others hear you sing well.
Well, there is another component that is equally important, and yet very seriously neglected, and that is the singer’s AURAL TRAINING or Ear Training.
Indeed, a good ear is a very important tool for a singer to have, and we should certainly focus our efforts towards developing a good ear so that our singing will improve as well!
This is because once we are able to listen and pick out minute changes in pitch and rhythm, we would know when we are singing off key or off beat, and we will be able to correct ourselves quicker and more effectively.
So remember, Singing is not ALL Output. You have to learn how to take in the Input as well, from your ears, when you are singing.
Listening is a key skill to pick up for singing, and you can start off your aural training by visiting my website section on Ear Training now!

Pitching Tip #18 – Why Can’t I Hit The High Notes?
Once again, I am inspired by the youths that I taught today, to answer one age-old question that many singers and singing students will ask.
“Why Can’t I Hit The High Notes??”
Is it because I am not using enough breath? Or is it because the notes are out of my range? Or am I using the wrong singing technique?
Basically, there are a great number of reasons why you may not be able to hit the high notes in a song, but let’s just talk about a few here.
Firstly, it could be due to a lack of sufficient breath support when you sing. High notes require more effort and also require more pressure in resisting the effort used by your vocal cords to produce those notes.
For those who feel that they need a revision of breath support before proceeding with this pitching tip, do check out the URL below:
Breath Support URL:
http://www.your-personal-singing-guide.com/breath-support.html
Secondly, it could be because the words that you are singing are of a difficult vowel for high notes. For example, an ‘eeh’ vowel would be much easier to sing high, as compared to an ‘ah’ vowel.
Thirdly, you might not be familiar with the proper vocal placement that is required for that high note, and might be pulling your voice from too low a position. It’s a bit like driving a car in 1st gear all the way, and expecting to hit 100km/h. It’s not possible.
Lastly, a simple reason would be that the note is just out of your vocal range. However, this should be one of your last choices, and only after you have exhausted the other possibilities.
To find out more about vocal ranges, do check out the URL below:

So, do find out which of the above reasons explain why you can’t hit the high notes, and try to rectify the problem with the proper solutions. I’m certain that there will be something for you in my website that will help you to solve your singing problem!
