I’d also like to take this opportunity to announce that we now have 8,048 active subscribers to this e-zine, and I am so happy that so many of you are loving the content and the tips that we are providing!

I would love it if you could step up your efforts and help spread the love for singing to those around you, and help us build a strong and loving Global Singing Community!

This past month has been really busy for me, and a few big things have been happening.

Firstly, the Your-Personal-Singing-Guide.Com website is currently being redesigned for WordPress, and when it is ready, it will look different and yet similar. Do watch out for it!

Secondly, my music school in Singapore (http://www.intunemusic.com.sg) is in the process of moving to our new premises, and I have been so busy with things like interior design, tenancy contracts and other important details.

I hope to be able to move to my new premises this June, and I will certainly post pictures of my new and upgraded school to our Facebook fan page for you guys to share my joy! ;-p

Thirdly, I am currently in the process of starting yet another great music resource for music lovers of the world, and I will release news about this to you guys when it’s ready.

So, as you can see, I’ve been really busy! But that still does not stop me from taking some time to reply your queries, and also to see how I can continue to offer my knowledge to you.

To all readers, I have started my very own Facebook fan page (Aaron Matthew Lim), and you can help me out by LIKING it at this URL:
http://www.facebook.com/AaronMatthewLim

RESOURCE Webpage: Vocal Warmups

Why do we do warmups before we exercise? It is usually because we want to avoid harm or hurt to the various muscles in our body.

Warmups get more important to us as we age, as our joints get stiffer and our muscles get less flexible.

So it is too with our vocal folds and our singing muscles!

We have to do vocal warmups before we sing, and we certainly have to warmup certain important muscles just before we sing a difficult and challenging song repertoire.

Otherwise, our singing muscles might just fail us at the crucial moments of our singing..

Check out the various Vocal Warmups now:

FOUNDATION Website: Breathing Exercises

Breathing is a very natural activity for us humans. After all, who doesn’t breathe everyday, day in and day out?

However, breathing for singing is a somewhat unnatural process, because we have to make sure we take in enough breath.

Also, when we sing, we exhale at an excruciatingly slow rate, and our natural breathing process is certainly nothing like that!

Learn more about how to breathe for singing, and also how to support your singing voice with our breath.

Vocal Mindset Tip #14 – A Kick In The Butt is Sometimes Just What We Need

We humans are natural born procrastinators.

If we can avoid doing something that is difficult or troublesome, we will avoid it. As much as we can.

Until it really becomes unavoidable and we have to face it head on, only then would we begin to attempt to overcome the difficult issue that we are facing.

This is certainly much like how we sometimes approach singing training.

We do only the exercises that we like and we excel in, and we avoid those that we fail or do badly in.

We start to fall into our ‘comfort zone’ of singing, and just start sitting on our butts. ;-p

For those who wish to start off their vocal training now with some simple vocal exercises, visit this URL now:

http://www.your-personal-singing-guide.com/vocal-exercises.html

I certainly would be the first to admit that I enjoy doing the singing exercises that I excel in.

Well, of course! It gives me lots of satisfaction and enjoyment when I can sing certain notes or when I can create the tones that I excel in.

However, I have to constantly remind myself to break new ground and reach for new challenges.

I recently attended a mentoring session by a wonderful internet marketing guru, and he said this to us:

“I find that most people who come to these mentoring sessions, are those who need a KICK in the BUTT!”

I wanted to laugh out loud when I heard that, because it was so true!

I had gone to the session, needing some encouragement from my mentor, and also wanting to be reminded about why I signed up for the internet course in the first place.

In short, I needed someone to give me a kick in the butt to get me moving again…

So, if any of you out there are starting to procrastinate and stagnate, and just are quite unwilling to tackle the difficult issues in your singing, you might want to consider asking someone to just remind you of what you’re supposed to be doing.

Perhaps you could get a good friend to get you off your butt, and motivate you towards greater challenges in your singing training!

You might even find that a kick in the butt is all you need to reach the next milestone in your singing adventures. ;-p

Pitching Tip #43 – Sometimes We Hear The Wrong Stuff

Whenever we hear people sing off key, or when we think that a person is tone deaf, we always think that he or she must be unable to hear their own singing.

However, we can also explore the notion that perhaps, they just might be hearing the Wrong Stuff!

For those who wish to begin tackling their aural awareness issues now, check out the URL below:

http://www.your-personal-singing-guide.com/ear-training.html

Some of us vocal instructors always focus on helping tone deaf singers be able to hear themselves better.

So, we focus on guiding them towards being more attentive when singing, listening to their own voice more, and also getting them to identify pitches better.

But sometimes, it doesn’t really help them much, and it might even make matters worse.

Because the truth is, perhaps it’s not really a matter of not being able to hear themselves when they sing.

But, it could be because these ‘tone deaf’ singers are just listening to the wrong notes or pitches when they are singing.

For every sound that we produce, there are harmonics and overtones. Also, when we sing, there is also the music accompaniment that goes on in the background that distracts us from what we should be listening to.

With all these overtones and music sounds coming in, ‘tone deaf’ singers are sometimes distracted and they end up listening to the other music and sounds that are in the song, and forget about their own voice.

They sometimes even think that they are singing those other tones, and that’s why they start to sing in a totally different key!

But strangely enough, you might find that even though they sing a different key, they can still keep to a certain melodic line, and if you turn down the music, you might find that they are singing the song with the correct melody, but just in a totally different key. Amazing!

It happens like this sometimes, and it is our job as vocal coaches to identify the problem, and to guide these singers to hear the RIGHT stuff.

Concentrate on the right notes and the right music, and sing the right melody.

And everything will end up sounding GREAT! ;-p
